Return to SA Passenger
Lists,1847-1886
ship Blundell,
573 tons, Captain Alexander Lumley, from Southampton
16th June 1856, arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia 11th October
1856
— 14th
ship from England to S.A. with government passengers for 1856 ; 4 + 1
births and 8 + 1 deaths on the passage ; Francis Martin,
surgeon-superintendent.
A note on the Surgeon's Report ... the Blundell arived
in port on the 11th October .. two deaths are noted after
this, by date, but the listing has only one death in port,
this data was obtained from the passenger list summary, Robert
The Blundell, after a passage of 118 days, arrived
from Southampton on the 11th October, with 298 immigrants.
Five births and nine deaths were reported as having ocurred
during the voyage.
This vessel was of a small size and tonnage, but seemed
well adapted for a limited number of immigrants.
The passengers were happy and contended, expressed themselves
satisfied with their diet and treatment, and appeared
to be a well selected class of persons.
Thirty-eight individuals, comprising eight families and
two single men, were nominated by friends in the colony,
who had deposited in the Colonial Treasury a certain
proportion of the passage money.
The immigrants seem to have found ready employment.
Mr. Francis Martin, the surgeon-superintendent, and Mr.
Alexander Lumley, the master of the ship, performed their
several duties with zeal and efficientcy. |
