The Fleets Adler Line A short lived Hamburg company formed in 1872 to operate Hamburg - New York services. A sharp decline in the emigrant trade occurred in 1873 and this continued into 1874. Adler ships were larger and faster than some other companies, and emigrants tended to favour the cheaper alternatives. By 1875 the company was in a difficult financial situation and was purchased by Hamburg America Line. Many thanks to Ted Finch for his assistance in collecting this data.
