Atlantic Fruit Company
/ (Di Giorgio)
Formed in 1905 by Joseph Di Giorgio and in 1906 United
Fruit Co. purchased a half share in the company, but was later forced
to sell
it under current anti-trust laws. In 1923 Di Giorgio entered into partnership
with the Vaccaro Bros (Standard
Fruit Co.) and formed the Mexican American Fruit & Steamship
Co. In 1927 the company name was changed to American Fruit & SS Co.
and in 1932 Di Giorgio sold out to Standard Fruit Co.
