The Fleets

Liverpool, Newfoundland & Halifax S.N. Co.

Formed in 1856 to operate a monthly service between Liverpool, Halifax, St. John's NF and Portland, Maine which meant that two steamers would be required to operate the route, but only one was owned. The first sailing from Liverpool commenced on 23rd Aug.1856 but didn't reach Portland until 28th Sep. She arrived at Halifax on 30th Sep. and left St. John's on 5th Oct., docking at Liverpool on 16th October. For unknown reasons, this was the end of the company's activities.

Many thanks to Ted Finch for his assistance in collecting this data. The following list was extracted from various sources. This is not an all inclusive list but should only be used as a guide.
