The Fleets

Monarch Line / (Royal Exchange Shipping Company, Limited)

The Royal Exchange Shipping Co. Ltd., was founded in 1870 with sailing ships on the Mediterranean and Far East trades. In 1880 they started New York - London sailings, with calls at Galway on the outward voyages. Due to a severe slump in the mid 1880s, the company went into liquidation in 1886 and some of their ships went to the Allan Line and some to the Wilson Line
