Ship Arrivals at the Port of Quebec, 1821

The following arrivals were extracted from the Montreal Gazette 1821. In 1821 the Montreal Gazette was a weekly publication. Additional information from the Quebec Mercury.
note: if ships' rigging or name of Master unpublished, it is indicated by -- (The newspapers were filmed within their binding, making one side of some entries, unreadable, or only partly legible. This can lead to errors in the interpretation of the entry or missed entries. ) Be aware that there may be two or more ships of the same name, from the same, or different ports, during the same year. A few ships also made two trips in 1821.

Quebec, May 21

Wreck:—On Saturday morning the steamboat Quebec was employed by government to go down to the wreck of the Lynx, a few miles on the west side of the mouth of the Saguenay ; she returned this morning with two hundred of the passengers, the remainder having contrived to leave the wreck before she arrived there. We are happy to learn that there were only three deaths, all children, and owing to the inclemency of the weather, as they continued on the shore since Sunday last, almost entirely without any kind of shelter. It is expected the vessel will be got off, and she has received but little damage. The baggage and other property of the emigrants were all saved. The Lynx sailed from Belfast with three hundred passengers, and, when she went on shore, had made the passage in the short period of twenty-six days.

Emigrants:—The Lady Sherbrooke brought up last Thursday, 429 men, women and children, part of those 2000 we lately mentioned to have been destined for this country at the expence of government. They are well behaved people, are under the guidance of eleven leaders and belong to the same number of Scotch Emigration Societies. Baggage to the weight of nearly 309 tons, shows them to be persons of some substance and capable of creditably establishing themselves instead of being a burthen to their adopted country. - Herald —(ed: Lanark county settlers who had arrived aboard the bark George Canning)

(ed: 605 Lanark county settlers also arrived aboard the ship Earl of Buckinghamshire, 16th of June 1821 (information added above from the Quebec Mercury). They travelled to Montreal aboard the steamboat Malsham 17 of June 1821. The arrival of the Earl of Buckinghamshire was not recorded in the Montreal Gazette newspaper, although she temporarily ran aground after her departure, September 8th 1821, which is recorded. As they were travelling on an "order" note, no names are recorded aboard Malsham, however the Societies, with numbers of persons from those Societies is recorded.— deck-plan sketch of the Earl of Buckinghamshire)

Last Thursday at about 2 o'clock A. M. the steam-boat Malsham, on her way hence to Quebec, and about one mile beyond Long Point church, ran foul, we have been informed, of the Lady Sherbrooke on her starboard quarter, broke her longboat and stanchions to splinters, and passed, leaving a part of her figure head aboard of the latter. The L.S. brings news that the brig Cherub had experienced, on Tuesday last near the foot of the Richelieu rapid, a heavy squall, in which she lost her fore-top mast and a man from one of the yards and was driven on shore. We have since learned that she got off.
The Car of Commerce remained aground near Batiscan during 24 hours.
