ship Amazon,
796 tons, Captain Frederick Coote, from Plymouth 2nd January 1856,
arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia 8th April 1856
South Australian Register Wednesday
9th April 1856
Tuesday April 8th, 1856:- the
ship Amazon, 796 tons,
F. Coote, Master, from Plymouth January 2nd.
Passengers: Dr. E. Doman, surgeon-superintendent in the cabin and
the following emigrants in the steerage. .
. . — 7th
ship from England to S.A. with government passengers for 1856 ; 0
births and 1 death on the passage ; Dr. Edward W. Doman,
surgeon-superintendent.
ship Amazon |
three-masted barque, built 1850 in Dundee, Registered
London. . . owned by Somes Bros. |
The Amazon arrived on the 7th April with 297 souls
; one child, two years old, died on the voyage ; there
were no births. The immigrants by this ship appeared
to be a well selected class of persons. In 12 days from
the date of arrival every immigrant had left the ship.
The Amazon seemed well adapted for the conveyance of
immigrants. Mr. Frederick Coote, the master of the ship,
and Mr. Edward Doman performed their duties with zeal,
kindness, and efficiency. |
