The Coldstream, Capt. Kennedy, arrived on Monday, June 5, after a passage of 93 days from Plymouth. She brings 296 Government immigrants, under the charge of Dr. Jolly, Surgeon-Superintendent.
TheColdstream. is a fine comfortable vessel, and as such well fitted for emigrant transport, especially as her commander has made 17 voyages in a similar employ, and the Surgeon-Superintendent is quite as much a veteran in the service. The cleanliness of the lower deck could scarcely be surpassed, though the general arrangements of the single female compartment in would be very much improved if the old style bunk head athwartships were substituted for the fore-and-aft division, which prevents that complete ventilation so much to be desired. Of the general conduct of the passengers both master and surgeon spoke favourably, but very little having occurred interfere with the harmony of the whole.
The number embarked at Plymouth was 295, births on the passage 7, and by deducting deaths the original number is increased one. She has not, we see, been quite free from sickness, for several cases of diarrhoea are chronicled in the surgeon's journal, but all were convalescent on arrival, so that free intercourse with the vessel was at once permitted, though none of the immigrant could leave till Dr. Duncan's visit of inspection.
There are on board 42 single females, of whom about 20 are seeking friends, the remainder being domestic servants, highly recommended by the matron. Subjoined are the names of the immigrants, together with their national and industrial classifications:—
