MISCELLANEOUS SHIPPING.

The Kirkham was sighted from the Stations on Saturday at sundown, and made short work of reaching the roads, where she was boarded and the pilot took her to an anchorage. The vessel has brought a few assisted immigrants, amongst whom there were three deaths during the voyage ; but on arrival the passengers were in good health. Captain McFarlane reports that on Friday, July 11, the ship was hauled out of dock and towed to the buoys at Gravesend, where her crew was completed. On Saturday, off Deal, the river pilot left and the channel pilot took charge. Under all plain sail the ship proceeded on her voyage. On the third day out some defective cases of acids, which formed part of the deck gear, were found to be leaking and were pitched overboard. Next day in a heavy gale so much water broke on board that it was found absolutely necessary to clear away all the acids on deck. On Monday, July 14, the craft was off St. Catherine's Light ; on Tuesday she sighted Portland, and at 4.15 discharged the pilot off Exmouth.  On Friday the 18th, she sighted the Wolf Rock Lighthouse, and quitted the land. On the following day she was in company with the ship Aliquis, from the Gulf of Bothnia for Port Adelaide. On July 24, in lat. 41° 3' N., long. 12° 42' W., she spoke the ship Strathnavar, from London, 11 days out, bound to Sydney. On August 6 the craft sighted the Cape de Verde islands, and moderate breezes prevailed for awhile. The north-east trades were scarcely perceptible, and on August 18 the ship crossed the line in 20° 42' W. Light airs and variables were prominent till she reached lat. 27° 31' S., in long. 25° 58' W., when a fresh gale was encountered, and next day, although it moderated, the mainroyalmast was carried away. The trip from the Cape was favourable until after the passing of the Leuwin, when north and north-east winds were experienced. The ship anchored outside on Saturday night, and as she had over 19 feet draught, some few days will elapse before she gets into harbour.
