House Passenger Lists 1815, 1832, 1833-1834 & 1837-1838
brig Preston, sailed
from Sligo June 28th 1834 / arr. August 13th 1834
Passenger List per brig Preston, (Joseph Murray, Master) bound
for Saint John, New Brunswick June 1834. There are 84 person listed,
including 8 crew members & 4 infants (equaling 76 & one-third
"full" passengers). The Health Officer at Partridge Island
Quarantine station, G.J. Harding M.D., made this statement after the ships'
arrival, signed August 13th 1834. "On inspecting the brig
Preston I found only 48 full passengers on board, the others the
Captain states that are on the list, did not embark. There are also eight
of the crew (ed: for a total of 56?). The Master states that two
of this number of passengers were secreted in the vessel and their names
are not entered."
